New Jersey Single Mothers: Think Twice Before Marriage

The Houston Chronicle reports that single moms are more likely than their peers to later experience health problems because of the stress of taking care of a child without a spouse.

New Jersey Divorce Lawyers understand the stress and anxiety people can have when they go through a divorce and we work with our clients to see them through the process. The study, published in the June 2011 issue of American Sociological Review, evaluated data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, which tracked 13,000 men and women between the ages of 14 and 22, from 1979 to now.

The analysis of data found that woman who have children out of wedlock are more likely to suffer from medical problems when they reach 40 years old, compared to women who were married when they gave birth.

However, researchers also found that getting married didn’t necessarily improve the situation. Although white and Hispanic women who eventually married the biological father of their child reported improved health after marriage, black women did not. In addition, women who married a different man said that their relative health did not improve after marriage.

Regardless of the circumstances, divorce can be difficult for everyone involved. Our goal is not only to leave you as financially well off as possible after the process is complete, but also to make sure that your children have the support they need to move forward in a stable and caring environment.  We have many years of experience handling New Jersey divorce cases and hope you will consider us when making the all-important decision of hiring a New Jersey Divorce Lawyer.
